October Blog: Physical Education viewed through the Lens of Healthspan, Part One – General Concepts

Physical Education viewed through the Lens of Healthspan, Part One – General Concepts

This month's blog is Physical Education viewed through the Lens of Healthspan, Part One – General Concepts .

From the study

The argument is easily made that physical education in our school systems has failed – obesity and metabolic disease are spiraling out of control for youth and young adults. Obesity and metabolic disease adversely impact the risks of cardiovascular disease, cancer, autoimmune conditions and cognitive decline. There is a coming tsunami of health issues ahead.

Through what lens should physical education best be viewed? Is there a way to “retire” the general concept of “gym class” and reorient physical education with a simple focus on critical goals? Having all efforts focused on an overarching primary and secondary goal should make all the other downstream pieces fall into place.

Guest Blogger Bill Franklin, the CEO of Internet4Classrooms, is our guest blogger this month. He has been on the faculty at The George Washington University, has years of platform instructional experience, was a career Army Special Operations officer and also has decades of experience as a youth sports coach

App of the Month

Every month we are going to feature a different, and hopefully FREE, iPad/iPod/iPhone/Android educational application. Visit our ever-changing app page.

The App of the Month for October is Yuka - Food & Cosmetic Scanner by Yuka ( iOS and Android ).

58 MILLION USERS

Yuka is a free mobile app that allows you to scan the barcodes of food and personal care products and instantly see their impact on your health. A rating and detailed information help you understand the analysis of each product.

When a product has a negative impact on your health, Yuka also recommends similar but healthier alternative products.

A 100% INDEPENDENT PROJECT

Yuka is a 100% independent project : product reviews and recommendations of healthier alternatives are done in an objective way. No brand or manufacturer can influence them in one way or another. Furthermore, there is no in-app advertising. You can access detailed information on our business model on our website (www.yuka.io).

5 MILLION REFERENCED PRODUCTS

Yuka established a database that contains 3 million food products and 2 million cosmetic products.

Each food product is evaluated according to 3 objective criteria: nutritional quality, presence of additives and organic aspect of the product.

The method to analyse cosmetic products is based on the analysis of all the ingredients of the product. Each ingredient is assigned a risk level according to the latest scientific data.

Terms of use: https://yuka-app.helpdocs.io/l/en/article/2a12869y56

Yuka - Food & Cosmetic Scanner is available for Apple and Android devices.

Compatibility: Requires iOS 15.0 or later on Apple iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch and Android version 7.0 and up on your Android device.
