Wow the year is flying. October welcomes the cold with Columbus Day, Halloween, Space Week, Chemistry Week, and more. Visit our monthly newsletter to see all the details. Below are just a few highlights.

WHAT'S HAPPENING THIS MONTH?

Here are just a couple of the October events that you can celebrate this month.

  1. World Space Week (Oct 4-10)- World Space Week was started back in 1999 to encourage and excite people's minds about a world bigger than we can imagine. It's also a great way to support space programs. This year is especially noteworthy due to Neil Armstrong's recent passing. Explore space, the moon, stars and planets on our Elementary Space page. We also have an entire topics page dedicated to Elementary Science where you can find resources on animals, plants, magnets, electricity, force, and more.

  2. Columbus Day (Oct 8)- Christopher Columbus didn't technically discover America. There were millions of people already there. He wasn't even the first European to claim he found America. He is, however, credited for jump starting exploration, settlement, as well as exploitation of America. Learn about Columbus Day and find Columbus Day classroom ideas.

  3. Chemistry Week (Oct 21-27)-It's the 25th anniversary of National Chemistry Week this year and the headline is Nanotechnology! Nanotechnology analyzes and engineers systems that function on a molecular scale - think nanometer. 1 ant is 5 MILLION nanometers long! Learn more about Nanotechnology and check out these science activities for kids. I4C has an entire section dedicated to High School Science Standards, including Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Astronomy resources.

  4. Halloween (Oct 31)-Do you know what you'll be dressing up for Halloween? Hard to believe trick-or-treating is already upon us. Have fun with our Halloween activities and crafts page.
