  1. In 1821, Florida was ceded to the United States by Spain.
  2. In 1867, the Harvard School of Dentistry becomes the first dental school in the U.S.
  3. In 1898, the Spanish American War ends as Spaniards surrender to US at Santiago Cuba.
  4. In 1902, the air conditioner was invented.
  5. In 1917, due to the war with Germany, the British royal family changed its name to Windsor from Saxe-Coburg Gotha (Hanover).
  6. In 1955, Disneyland opens in Anaheim, California.
  7. In 1959, Tibet abolishes serfdom.
  8. In 1975, an Apollo spaceship docked with a Soyuz spacecraft in orbit in the first superpower linkup of its kind.
  9. In 1981, Israeli bombers destroy PLO/al-Fatah headquarters in Beirut, Lebanon.
  10. In 1998, Czar Nicholas II and his family are buried, 80 years after they are killed.
