  1. In 1835, P T Barnum & his circus begin its first tour of U.S.
  2. In 1883, the first night baseball game under lights was played in Ft Wayne Indiana.
  3. In 1886, President Grover Cleveland marries Frances Folsom, who was the youngest first lady in U.S. history.
  4. In 1910, the first roundtrip flight over English Channel took place.
  5. In 1919, the Pulitzer prize is awarded to Carl Sandburg (Cornhuskers)
  6. In 1924. the Snyder Act was passed: U.S. citizenship granted to all American Indians.
  7. In 1935. Babe Ruth, 40, announces his retirement as a baseball player, ending his Major League playing career after 22 seasons.
  8. In 1952, 650,000 metal workers go on strike in U.S.
  9. In 1957, the Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev was interviewed by CBS-TV by Daniel Schorr.
  10. In 1985, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar became the all-time leading point scorer in the National Basketball Association playoffs, having a total of 4,458 points.
