Happy Birthday to the U.S.A.!

  1. In 1776, the American Colonies declared Independence from Britain.
  2. In 1826, on the 50th Anniversary of Independence Day, both John Adams (2nd President) and Thomas Jefferson (3rd President, died in their respective homes.
  3. In 1831, on the 55th Anniversary of Independence Day, James Monroe (5th President) died in New York City.
  4. In 1884, the Statue of Liberty was presented to the United States by France, in Paris.
  5. In 1942, the US begins its bombing offensive against Nazi Germany.
  6. In 1946, the Phillippines became Independent.
  7. In 1959, a 49th star was added to the American flag to represent the new state of Alaska. 1 yr later a 50th star was added to represent the new state of Hawaii.
  8. In 1993, a Pizza Hut blimp deflates & lands safely on W 56th street in NYC
  9. In 1996, Hotmail - a free Internet email service begins.
  10. In 2004, the cornerstone of the Freedom Tower was laid at the World Trade Center site.
