  2. In 1819, the first savings bank in US (Bank of Savings in NYC) opens its doors.
  3. In 1863, the Civil War's Battle of Gettysburg in Pennsylvania ended after three days in a major victory for the North as Confederate troops retreated
  4. In 1884, Dow Jones published its first Stock Average.
  5. In 1890, Idaho became the 43rd State.
  6. In 1928, first color TV broadcast in London.
  7. In 1954, food rationing ends in Great Britain.
  8. In 1971, Jim Morrison, singer died in Paris at the age of 27.
  9. In 1976, Israel launches rescue of 103 Air France crew & passengers being held at Entebbe Airport in Uganda by pro-Palestinian hijackers.
  10. In 1986, the renovated Statue of Liberty was relit.
