  1. In 1775, the first Spanish ship, "San Carlos", enters San Francisco Bay.
  2. In 1858 the first transatlantic telegraph cable was completed by Cyrus W. Field.
  3. In 1884, the cornerstone for the Statue of Liberty was laid in New York Harbor.
  4. In 1891, American Express issued its first "Travelers Checks".
  5. In 1914, the first electric traffic signal was installed in Cleveland, Ohio.
  6. In 1945, the Atomic Bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan by the U.S.
  7. In 1963, the U.S., Britain, and the Soviet Union signed a treaty in Moscow banning nuclear testing in the atmosphere, outer space and underwater.
  8. In 1967, an AFL team beat an NFL team when the Denver Broncos beat the Detroit Tigers.
  9. In 1985, the establishment of a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is announced.
  10. In 2002, the gun turret of the Civil War era USS Monitor was raised from the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.
