July Blog: How Teachers Can Use Pinterest in the Classroom

How Teachers Can Use Pinterest in the Classroom

This month's blog is How Teachers Can Use Pinterest in the Classroom.

Pinterest is a social media platform that's hugely popular with educators. But not every teacher knows how to make the most of it, which is why USC Rossier's online MAT program created The Guide to Pinterest for Educators. This guide helps teachers and administrators learn how to navigate and use Pinterest as a powerful learning tool. Here is an overview of the guide, with a link to help you dig in on your own.

Guest blogger Caroline Linne is a Marketing Coordinator and supports community outreach for 2U Inc.'s K-12 Education and mental health programs.

App of the Month

Every month we are going to feature a different, and hopefully FREE, iPad/iPod/iPhone/Android educational application. Visit our ever-changing app page.

The App of the Month for July is Frog Dissection By Emantras Inc. ( iOS and Android ).

Winner of PeTA's Mark Twain Ethical Science Award

Winner of IEAR, Best Science App Award 2010

Featured in The Sunday Times- List of Top 500 Apps across all devices

Featured by Apple "New and Noteworthy" & "What's Hot"

Frog Dissection from Punflay, is a greener alternative for teaching dissection in the classroom. This iPad app is suitable for middle-school students who are learning about organs and organ systems as part of their life science curriculum. Students can try dissecting a virtual specimen with all the trappings that come with the real procedure-minus the mess of course! Besides a virtual chloroformed specimen, the app comes with all the dissection tools and detailed instructions to complete the procedure. Once dissection is complete, the frog's organs are exposed for further study. Vivid 3D images will help students visualize the internal organs very effectively. For enhanced learning experience, the app also has information on the different types of frogs, frogs' life cycle, anatomical comparison of frogs with humans, an interactive quiz and detailed descriptions of the organs.

Key Features:

  • Vivid 3D imaging
  • Step by step instructions with voice over
  • Accurate simulation of the wet lab dissection procedure
  • Content validation by subject matter experts
  • Anatomical comparison of humans with frogs
  • Comprehensive information on frogs' organs
  • Classification, lifecycle and organ functions of frogs
  • Interactive quiz on frogs
  • Information on types of frogs

Frog Dissection has received accolades from top review sites and educators who have found this to be an excellent teaching tool in the classroom. The app has been featured in schools that are exploring alternatives to real dissection.

Frog Dissection is available for Apple and Android devices.

Compatibility: Requires iOS 8.0 or later on Apple devices and Android version 2.3 and up on your Android device.
