  1. In 1769 , Daniel Boone begins exploring the State of Kentucky.
  2. In 1775, the United Colonies changes name to United States.
  3. In 1863, French troops captured Mexico City.
  4. In 1932, over 7,000 war veterans, demanding their bonus pay for service in World War I, march on Washington, D.C.
  5. In 1939, King George VI and his wife, Queen Elizabeth, arrived in the U.S, being the first visit to the U.S. by a reigning British monarch.
  6. In 1942, this day marks the end of the Battle of Midway, the first WW II naval defeat of Japan.
  7. In 1953, the first color network telecast in compatible color aired the Kukla, Fran (Allison) and Ollie show.
  8. In 1955 D.Eisenhower was the first President to appear on color television.
  9. In 1976, the first airing of the "NBC Nightly News", with John Chancellor and David Brinkley happens.
