- In 1631, the Taj Mahal construction began, and went on for the next 20 yrs.
- In 1775, the Battle of Bunker Hill began.
- In 1856, the first Republican Convention was held in Pittsburgh, P.A. to establish the Republican party on a national level.
- In 1885, the Statue of Liberty arrived in the U.S.
- In 1928, Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic, even though she was a passenger on this flight.
- In 1947, President Truman declared that universal military training was necessary for all troops.
- In 1963, the U.S. Supreme Court decided the Lord's Prayer and reading Bible versus could not be required in schools.
- In 1967, China successfully launched the country's first hydrogen bomb.
- In 1972, the Watergate burglars were arrested for breaking into the Democratic National Committee headquarters. This large scandal prompted the resignation of President Nixon.
- In 1994, O.J. Simpson lead police on a high speed chase and was arrested for killing his ex-wife.
