  1. In 1099, Jerusalem was captured in the First Crusade.
  2. In 1789, the "Storming of the Bastille" started the French Revolution when Parisian revolutionaries stormed the Bastille prison and freed seven prisoners inside.
  3. In 1853, the first World's Fair opens in New York.
  4. In 1867, Alfred Nobel demonstrated dynamite.
  5. In 1868, the tape measure is patented by Alvin J. Fellows.
  6. In 1946, Dr. Benjamin Spock, M.D. first published his "Common Sense Book of Baby & Child Care"
  7. In 1949, the USSR explodes their first atomic bomb.
  8. In 1975, Disney announces plans to build EPCOT Center in Florida. EPCOT stands for: Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow.
  9. In 1987, Taiwan ends 37 years of martial law.
  10. In 1999, Race-based school busing in Boston, Massachusetts ended after 25 years.
