Description:
Captain James Cook was an English explorer who lived in the 1700s. He crossed the Pacific Ocean three times during his lifetime. His discoveries include parts of Australia, several Pacific Islands, and parts of the Hawaiian Islands. He sailed along the coast of Antarctica, was the first to cross the Antarctic Circle, and looked for the Northwest Passage. Contrary to others of his day, he studied diet to make sure his crews remained healthy. On his voyages, he collected scientific information and created highly accurate maps that were used for years. For the knowledge he gathered and his explorations, Captain Cook was made a member of the Royal Society of England.
