This month's blog is
Five Creative Ways to Keep Children Learning over the Summer Break
.
Summer breaks are the children's favorite part of the year. After
school is over, they are ecstatic to go outside and play, and they
can't wait to see their friends in a relaxed, duty-free environment.
Numerous studies have shown that play is one of the most important
factors for a child's development. This is why it's crucial to allow
them to spend some time learning and exploring through play, both on
their own, and as a part of a group. However, the way children spend
their summer breaks can easily get out of control.
Sensible and thought-out parents' involvement can help make a summer
break the time when kids will have plenty of time to both play and
learning. This blog post cover some of the best practices to include
to help a child learn in a fun, unobtrusive way during summer
holidays.

Every month we are going to feature a different iPad/iPod/iPhone educational application.
Visit our ever-changing app page. (www.internet4classrooms.com/links_grades_kindergarten_12/apps_web2_tools.htm)
The App of the Month for July is Expeditions By Google LLC ( iOS / Android ).
Google Expeditions is an immersive learning and teaching tool that
lets you go on VR trips or explore AR objects. Explore historical
landmarks, go down to the atomic level, get up close with sharks,
even visit outer space.
In the classroom or with groups, Google Expeditions allows a teacher
acting as a 'guide' to lead classroom-sized groups of 'explorers'
through VR tours or show them AR objects. Guides can use a set of
tools to point out interesting things along the way.
Users who aren't in groups can also explore on their own, either in
VR or AR.
Features:
- Explore a world of places and things on your own with your phone,
tablet or VR device.
- Guide classroom-sized groups of locally connected users from your
phone or tablet.
- Join a guide in immersive AR or VR and let them walk you through
one of our hundreds of VR or AR Expeditions. VR mode can be used with
a Google Cardboard or Daydream viewer.
- Connect devices over the same Wi-Fi network - if the Guide has
downloaded some of the Expeditions, no Internet connectivity is
required to run the Expedition.
- Choose from a growing list of over 800 Expeditions - each one is a
curated set of VR imagery or AR objects, along with integrated
descriptions, talking points and questions.
Expeditions is available for Apple and Android devices.
Compatibility: Requires iOS 9.0 or later on Apple iPad and Android version 4.4 and up on your Android device.
