Using the WebGuide Template

Using the WebGuide Template - Some teachers feel intimidated by the task of writing a WebQuest, and yet they have found some really good web pages that they would like to use in a lesson plan. That is why the WebGuide template was written, to present a format for building a lesson plan around a single web site. To become familiar with the structure of a WebGuide, look at the template.

Finding the right web page to use in your lesson - Earlier in this set of modules several locations were suggested as source for web sites to be used in a lesson. If you have not yet selected a web page for your lesson, now is the time to go back to those sites and find one.

Modifying the Template - The WebGuide template can be modified by any web page development software; Dreamweaver, Pagemill, Claris HomePage. or Netscape Composer. If you are unfamiliar with using web page development software, a WebGuide template created in MS Word is also available. Select this link to download a copy to your computer.

As you use the template to write your lesson, consider leaving the description of a section (in red below) until you have completed writing that section of your lesson plan. After you have completed a section, remove the description that came on the template.

Site Description: Give enough information that your students know what to expect when they follow the link given to them above. If you need to caution them about pop-up windows or banners, or direct them to a specific part of the web page, do it in this section. If they know what to look for when they follow the link it will cut down on questions you have to answer in class.
