Grade 1-2: Vocabulary Lesson for Monday, Week 13

This week's theme is: Gardening


Word List 13

  1. damp: Just a tiny bit wet
  2. soil: The top layer of the surface of the earth.
  3. gap: A space between two objects.
  4. insect: A bug having a body divided into head, thorax, and abdomen and having three pairs of legs.

Monday Activities

  1. Write the words and definitions in your vocabulary notebook.
  2. Create your own sentence using each word and write this in your vocabulary notebook. We have provided samples below to get you started.
  3. Draw your words - Use these sheets to pint off and draw and spell out the words you are studying. Click on the link to start. Print out one of the sheets and when completed, put into the vocabulary notebook.

Use the daily activities to help you remember words that you learn each week. It is much easier to remember what the words mean if you do something with them and use them frequently in talking with your parents, family and friends.

Sample sentences:

I slipped on the damp leaves.
His hands felt damp inside his gloves.

Dig a hole in the soil to plant the flowers.
After the rain, you could see worms in the soil.

Leave a 3 inch gap between the seeds so the plants will have room to grow.
The students used rocks to fill in the gaps.

Be sure and look for insect damage to the leaves.
Wear protective spray so the insects won't bite you.
