Word List 7

1. abundant: having plenty
2. allegiance: loyalty for a country
3. refuge: a place of safety
4. innovation: newly made or improving something with creativity
5. civic: relating to citizenship
6. legislation: the act of making a law
7. monarch: a person who is ruler of a kingdom or empire

Monday Activities

1. Write the words and definitions in your vocabulary notebook.
2. Create your own sentence using each word and write this in your vocabulary notebook. We have provided samples below to get you started.

Use the daily activities to help you remember words that you learn each week. It is much easier to remember what the words mean if you do something with them and use them frequently in talking with your parents, family and friends.

Sample sentences:

She had an abundant supply of paper for school.
The United States has an abundant supply of food for its citizens.

We pledge allegiance to our flag.
Soldiers pledge allegiance and take an oath for their country.

Immigrants seek refuge in America.
The man took refuge from the cold in a shelter.

CDs were an innovation in the late 90s but now there are DVDs.
The United States encourages innovation in learning.

It is our civic duty to pick up litter.
The mayor brought 3 civic dignitaries to the meeting.

The senator introduced the tax legislation to Congress.
Under the current legislation, running a red light is against the law.

Monarchs ruled England for centuries.
