Grade 5-6: Vocabulary Lesson for Thursday, Week 14

This week's theme is: Economy

Word List 14

1. sluggish: Little activity, moving very slowly.
2. sparse: Spread out or not dense.
3. exasperation: Anger, irritation, state of annoyance.
4. sever: To cut off or break apart.
5. anxious: Worried, uneasy.
6. escalate: To increase, to make bigger.
7. morale: Mental confidence.

Thursday Activities

1. Create your own vocabulary book for review. Use this site to make your own book. Type in your words and definitions. You can make up to 10 pages. Print it out and carry it around with you to practice in your spare time.
2. Create your own stacks of flashcards using this site. Register for free, then create your note cards. Type in your vocabulary words and then the definition.
3. Connectors - Click on the link and type in your vocabulary words and their definitions in the three columns. Your definitions will be typed in column 2 and continue in column 3. Print out the sheet and cut it into the individual blocks. Keep the pieces in a Ziploc bag and try to put the connectors together during your travel time or free time at home.

Use the daily activities to help you remember words that you learn each week. It is much easier to remember what the words mean if you do something with them and use them frequently in talking with your parents, family and friends.

Traffic in the tunnel was sparse.
This leaves a sparse field of contenders for the May elections.

He shook his head in exasperation.

She looked out of the window and she was anxious to get home.
He was anxious about his chances to get this job.

You never know what this could escalate into.
Tension in the region continues to escalate.

Getting the job was a great morale booster for him.
