Grade 3-4: Vocabulary Lesson for Thursday, Week 9

This week's theme is: Eating


Word List 9

  1. absorb: to soak up, to take in
  2. nectar: very delicious, sweet liquid
  3. spoil: to become bad or rotten
  4. starve: to suffer from hunger, lack of food
  5. digest: to change food into juices that can be absorbed by the body

Thursday Activities

  1. Click on this link to make a word search or word scramble.
  2. Type in 10 of your vocabulary words. Look in your vocabulary notebook. Print out the sheet. Complete it, and put it in your vocabulary notebook.

Use the daily activities to help you remember words that you learn each week. It is much easier to remember what the words mean if you do something with them and use them frequently in talking with your parents, family and friends.

Sample sentences:

Your stomach juices help absorb the vitamins you need from your food.
your digestive system absorbs many useful nutrients from the food you eat.

The peach tasted like nectar flowing down my throat.
Bees gather nectar from flowers.

If you eat spoiled food, you may get sick.
The potato salad had spoiled because it was not refrigerated

Some people think the best way to lose weight is to starve themselves.
There are a lot of people in the world that are starving and America is trying to help them.

Some think you need to digest your food before going swimming.
Babies are given soft, mashed food to help them digest their meals.
