Grade 3-4: Vocabulary Lesson for Tuesday, Week 13

This week's theme is: American Idol


Word List 13

  1. ability: Being able to do something, an acquired or natural skill.
  2. ambition: Having a strong longing to succeed.
  3. struggle: A hard effort to give the best you can.
  4. fierce: A strong effort to win.
  5. perform: To present a song or a play for an audience.

Tuesday Activities

  1. Go to the Spelling City website. Type in your list of vocabulary words. Click on the button that says Play A Game. Select Which Word. Play the game and write down the fill-in-the-blank sentences in your notebook.
  2. Click on this link to see the magnetic board.
  3. Drag the letters to create your vocabulary words on the board.

Use the daily activities to help you remember words that you learn each week. It is much easier to remember what the words mean if you do something with them and use them frequently in talking with your parents, family and friends.

Sample sentences:

Being nervous could affect your ability to do your best.
He was confident in his ability to sing.

She has the ambition to go far with her talent.
Seeing others succeed makes his ambition stronger.

Sometimes you must struggle to learn the new skill.
Even though she has taken dance for years, she still struggles to learn difficult steps.

There is always fierce competition.
She has the fierce determination to win.

She knew she would have to perform her best to win.
Sometimes he is nervous when he performs.
