Grade 3-4: Vocabulary Lesson for Tuesday, Week 10

This week's theme is: Competition


Word List 10

  1. ordeal: a difficult experience
  2. opponent: the person on the opposite side of a game or contest
  3. outcome: the way something turns out
  4. advantage: having greater ability to do something, to use an opportunity
  5. triumph: a great success

Tuesday Activities

  1. Make Flashcards - Write the word on one side of an index card and put the definition and a sentence on the opposite side You can find ideas for making flashcards on the Internet by clicking by clicking on the link.
  2. Click on this link and type in your vocabulary words.
  3. Click on the M button at the bottom to get back to the main page. Click on the menu items to play the game.

Use the daily activities to help you remember words that you learn each week. It is much easier to remember what the words mean if you do something with them and use them frequently in talking with your parents, family and friends.

Sample sentences:

He knew this match would be an ordeal.
He survived the ordeal and was ready to continue the game of football.

Bob knew he would have to prepare and train hard when he played against this opponent.
Sally knew her opponent was smart, so she studied harder for the knowledge contest.

Mike was not happy with the outcome of the game.
If she practiced, the outcome of the contest could go in her favor.

Ted's opponent had a big advantage over him, but he was determined to win.
Pat used her knowledge as an advantage to outsmart her opponent.

John triumphed over his opponent.
Sally celebrated her triumph at the ice cream store.
