Grade 1-2: Vocabulary Lesson for Tuesday, Week 13
This week's theme is: Gardening
Word List 13
- damp: Just a tiny bit wet
- soil: The top layer of the surface of the earth.
- gap: A space between two objects.
- insect: A bug having a body divided into head, thorax, and abdomen and having three pairs of legs.
Tuesday Activities
- Make Flashcards - Write the word on one side of an index card and put the definition and a sentence on the opposite side.
- Word Whacker : Play this with all of your flashcards from all weeks. Place the cards on a table with the word side up. Stand over the cards with a flyswatter or a rolled up newspaper. As the definitions are read by an adult, "whack" the correct word. Play this with your friends and family members and see who can whack the word first.
- Write your vocabulary words in alphabetical order in your vocabulary notebook. Write your own definition beside each word.

Use the daily activities to help you remember words that you learn each week. It is much easier to remember what the words mean if you do something with them and use them frequently in talking with your parents, family and friends.
Sample sentences:
I slipped on the damp leaves.
His hands felt damp inside his gloves.Dig a hole in the soil to plant the flowers.
After the rain, you could see worms in the soil.Leave a 3 inch gap between the seeds so the plants will have room to grow.
The students used rocks to fill in the gaps.Be sure and look for insect damage to the leaves.
Wear protective spray so the insects won't bite you.
