  • About 19 million immigrants came to the United States between 1890 and 1921

Key Events:

  • 1924 -Johnson-Reed Immigration Act (Johnson-Reed Act) - limited the number of immigrants who could be admitted from any country
  • 1952 - Immigration and Nationality Act (McCarran-Walter Act) - further restricted immigration into the US
