Key Events:
- March 4, 1909 - William Howard Taft becomes president
- February 3, 1913 - the 16th Amendment was ratified, which allows Congress to levy federal income taxes
- April 8, 1913 - the 17th Amendment was ratified, establishing direct election of United States Senators by popular vote
- March 4, 1913 - Woodrow Wilson becomes president.
- Clayton Antitrust Act of 1914 - building on the Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890, this law specified particular prohibited conduct, the three-level enforcement scheme, the exemptions, and the remedial measures.
