- In 16222, the first major conflict between the natives and Europeans occurred, and 347 "whites" died.
- In 1637, the Pequot War occurred over the Connecticut River region.

- Phillip - an Indian chief who attempted to unite the tribes against Europeans taking over the land.
- League of the Iroquois - democratic collection of Native American tribes who solved problems collectively.
