- In 1773, the East India Company was granted rights by the British government to be the sole importer of tea to the colonies, much to the dismay of Americans.
- Boston Tea Party - December 16, 1773 - Sam Adams led a group of men disguised as Mohawk Indians to British Ships at port in the Boston Harbor and dumped the ships' tea into the water.
