June 19: What Happened on This Day in History (High_school Level)?

  1. In 1846, the first official baseball game was played between the New York Baseball club and the Knickerbockers.
  2. In 1862, Slavery was outlawed in all U.S. territories.
  3. In 1870, the Confederacy States of America ceased to exist.
  4. In 1905, the first nickelodeon theatre opened in Pittsburgh. It was named so b/c it cost a nickel to get in.
  5. In 1910, the first Father's Day celebration occurred in Spokane, Washington. Father's Day is now recognized in more than 52 countries.
  6. In 1941, Cheerios Cereal created the O-shape.
  7. In 1964, the Civil Rights Act was past 73-27, prohibiting segregation, discrimination, and allowing African Americans to vote.
  8. In 1987, Ben & Jerry's released the flavor Cherry Garcia and it still goes strong today as a favorite flavor.
  9. In 1995, the New York Yankees announced an agreement with Darryl Strawberry.
  10. In 2000, the U.S. Supreme Court barred leading the audience in prayer before the game.
