  1. Analogy of the Day - From FactMonster. Hints and answers are provided. (Our Language Arts page has more analogy sites)
  2. A Word A Day - Each week a different theme on daily vocabulary words and their definitions. This site provides a pronunciation of the word via a .wav file or a RealAudio file. You can also subscribe to the daily word by email.
  3. Daily Buzzword - Come see what all the buzz is about at the Daily buzzword
  4. Daily Grammar - Daily Grammar no longer offers this service, but they still have their archive online.
  5. Daily Spelling Bee - Every day three new words are offered to test your spelling skills. Warning!- some of the pronunciation clues are an attempt to lull you into a spelling error.
  6. Daily Vocabulary Quiz - Three new, often challenging, words every day to test your knowledge of the meanings of words.
  7. Daily Word Jumble - Four new, often challenging, scrambled words every day to test your skills at unscrambling and rearranging letters. (Each line of scrambled letters forms one word.) Average Puzzle Score=2 Correct
  8. English Daily - free exercises, idioms, common abbreviations, slang, proverbs and much more
  9. Etymologic, The Toughest Word Game on the Web - In this game you'll be presented with 10 randomly selected word origin or word definition puzzles to solve.
  10. Fake Out - The Definition Guessing Game. Three words are given for grades K-2, 3-5, and 6+. Another option is to choose one of the words listed and submit your own fake definition. Check back in two weeks and see how many people chose your definition instead of the correct one.
  11. FreeDictionary - Learn a new word for the day, an article of the day, history of the day, word game of the day and more.
  12. Merriam Webster's Word of the Day - Learn a new word, see an example sentence and then learn about the derivation of the word. Webster will even Email this to you on a daily basis. Enlarge the vocabulary of your High School level students.
  13. Shakespeare's Sonnet of The Day - Discover a new sonnet everyday.
  14. Sound Puzzle of the Day - A new type of word game. Add the vowels and diphthongs and solve the phrase of the day. Includes class strategies to try.

Mathematics

  1. Aunty Math - Every other week is a new math challenge for Aunty Math's niece and nephews. These challenges come in the form of story problems. Your class can post their solutions and strategies and look at others answers also. Past archives with answers. Grades K-5
  2. Math quizzes - There are four separate math quizzes and each one features a new quiz for each day of the quiz. That's 28 to choose from. These will tease your brain!
  3. Nick's Mathematical Puzzles - The puzzles presented here are selected for the deceptive simplicity of their statement, or the elegance of their solution. They range over geometry, probability, number theory, algebra, calculus, and logic. All require a certain ingenuity, but usually only pre-college math. Some puzzles are original. Nick plans to add one new puzzle each week, there are already 70 to choose from.

  6. Problem of the Week from MathCounts - Updated every Monday morning, the problem of the week covers a variety of topics, and always focuses on a current newsworthy event. On the right side of the page you will find links to yearly archives that go back to 2000.
  7. White House Kids Math Challenge - Five categories; elementary, middle, high, open, and a past problems archive
  8. Word Problems For Kids - Hosted by St. Francis Xavier University, this site features about 4 dozen word problems, and solutions, for each grade level from 5 - 12

  1. Astronomy Picture of the Day - Discover the cosmos! Each day a different image or photograph of our fascinating universe is featured, along with a brief explanation written by a professional astronomer. APOD's archive extends back to June 16, 1995.
  2. Braindrops - Expand your knowledge of the science around you with a daily Braindrop. This neat site is from the Franklin Institute Online.
  3. The Inventor of the Week - Part of MIT's Invention Dimension site. They have an archive that is organized alphabetically by inventors' last names.
  4. Molecule of the Month - one of the longest running scientific websites, on the web since October 1996
  5. Physics Question of the Week from The University of Maryland Department of Physics - Each week a new question will be posted and the answer for the previous Question of the Week will be shown. The questions involve real experimental physics, so part of the answers will be photographs and even short videos of the experiments carried out in determining the answers.
  6. Question of the Day from PhysLink, physics and astronomy online education and reference (Actually, this is the answer of the day.)
  7. Radar Loop of the last 2 hours covering the contiguous United States. This Doppler radar site indicates clouds, rain and snow with different colors, and refreshes 4 times per hour. Intellicast now offers a 12 hour java loop. More importantly, this loop allows you to step forward, or backward, one image at a time.
  8. The Science Question of the Week - These are high level questions designed for high school. The Science Question of the week was brought to you by Jim Foster of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. The site has not been added to since 5/26/06, but offers a great archive of questions.
  9. The Southeast Regional Climate Center Weather Quiz is composed of weather-related questions that have been randomly selected. The test is targeted at elementary school students, but may provide some challenge to people of all ages. The quiz is updated daily with a new list of questions.

  12. Tonight's Sky - This site will help you plan you observing sessions by helping you find objects of interest in your sky. Based on your input below a list of objects will be produced that are visible at your location when you plan to observe. Any object below the local horizon will be excluded.
  13. Weather Image of the Day - from the Operational Significant Event Imagery (OSEI) support team of the Satellite Services Division (SSD) of the National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS), a division of the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
  14. Who Is That? - Students see a portrait of a famous scientist or mathematician and one to four clues, depending on the level of difficulty. This is one of the great games found at Funbrain.
  15. Memphis Weather (i4c is based in Memphis, but you can find links to your local weather at most of these sites)
    1. The National Weather Service gives current conditions and a 24 hour summary.
    2. USA Today reports Memphis weather and a 4 day forecast.
    3. Weather Underground gives the current forecast including sunrise/sunset, moonrise/moonset, moon phases, and a 6 day forecast with images you could download to create your own graphs in multimedia software.
    4. The Weather Channel gives current Memphis weather and a 10 day forecast. This site has a new look with several radar options.
    5. CNN Weather gives a 9 day forecast with the current weather.

  1. Daily Lesson Plans from the NY Times - An excellent resource for Middle and High School students. Lesson plans are created daily using the newspaper for Current Events. Academic Standards are listed as well as overviews, activities, procedures and resources needed.
