  1. "FROM ROCK 'N' ROLL TO A MARS SPACE SCIENTIST" - A science lesson plan which allows students to identify science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers that are represented on a mission such as the Mars Science Laboratory. They will conduct research into the requirements of entering a STEM field of their choosing and be able to describe where they might work and what sorts of projects they might be involved in.
  2. 6th Grade Science Units - This site provides resources for various science topics.
  3. Identifying High-Quality Sites - Students explore the idea that anyone can publish on the Internet, so not all sites are equally trustworthy. They need to carefully evaluate the sites they use for research, and then decide which ones they can trust.
  4. Kids Discover Galaxies - This site has a link for a free IPad app which allows the student learn about how galaxies are born, kinds of galaxies, galactic myths and legends using interactive 3-D models, high-definition video and audio, hi-res photographs, cartoons, and animations, easy-to-read, accessible writing, quizzes, puzzles, and other fun games.
  5. Read to Learn, Then Write What You Learn - Learn More! - This document present three Common Core reading standards for nonfiction text that students would develop as they read to learn.
  6. The City Dark - In this lesson, students will study the nesting process of the endangered loggerhead turtle species and watch a video clip that illustrates how artificial lighting along nesting beaches disorients turtle hatchlings and hinders their ability to reach the ocean successfully. Students will then identify ways that humans can reduce the threat of such lighting to natural habitat.
  7. Which Me Should I Be? - In this lesson, students learn that presenting themselves in different ways online carries both benefits and risks.
  8. Your Amazing Brain - This link provides a scientific information text with comprehension questions which follow the text.
